INTEGRIS Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute

Among the nation's highest success rates.

"A faithful friend is the medicine of life." Valerie Thomerson gave Sarah Gigstad a bracelet with that inscription as a thank you gift after Sarah donated one of her kidneys to save Valerie, who was suffering from end-stage renal disease. Now, every year on June 18, the women celebrate Valerie's health and Sarah's generosity. As Sarah notes, "You may be in a situation where you would appreciate someone else being able to bless you."

For some, transplantation can be their final hope. For others, it's their saving grace. Through this section, we invite you to get to know some of the specialists at Oklahoma's largest multi-organ transplant facility. And be inspired by stories of journeys — like Sarah's — that redefine what it means to offer a new beginning … or be given a new lease on life.
